Especially since video is touted at an Axx advantage--but is it significantly better than the competition?

A good indicator would be the NEX.  The A33 uses the same sensor as the NEX, the A55 using a higher resolution version of it.  By all reports.  NEX video is outstanding.
the A55 has a brand new design sensor

It's a new sensor, but not a brand new sensor design from the ground up.  It's a higher resolution version of the NEX sensor.  Same technology.

"The A55 sensor is based on the one used in the NEX 5 and VG10, except with a slightly higher pixel count. The A33 uses the same NEX 5 sensor."

this is 10fps with the HX1, this is frame #8, on the first try. I'm here to tell you, it's veeeery cool, fun and useful.

dont get the camera wet :o

That's why I have a TX5.  The 10fps, twilight and HDR modes are killer across the Sony line.

normal ISO 3200 vs handheld twilight ISO 3200

100% crops unresized
Look me in the eye and tell me you wouldn't want this on your PEN! remember this is from a tiny sensor not from an alpha.

No, we won't kick you out...just banish you to the "Other Cameras" board!  ;) :P

(P.S.: Is it just me--or my monitor? But I don't see that much difference between your two samples. The Twilight one looks a tiny bit better, but I'm sure there are other situations where the difference are more dramatic.)

click on the image for the amplification and then on the corner for the full version, better yet download them both and compare them side by side. Even better on your tv, but unless you have a tiny monitor, the difference is quite dramatic. Look at the words ISO, and display, then look at the play icon, it's really noticeable there. Where it's really dramatic is in the LCD, I know your not here to see it but, in the handheld twilight what you see reflected in the LCD is my couch, and it looks just like that, whereas in the first one it just looks like a mess.

I guarantee you'll fall in love with it, it keeps detail sharp and even corrects for barrel distortion. Please do a side by side like I just did, I'm dying to see it on a large sensor. As I understand it you don't have control of ISO in twilight on the NEX (on the A55 u will ;D) so what you gotta do is find a dark place on your house to get the highest ISO like I did (I'm guessing is gonna be 12800) and then shoot the same thing in manual. PLEEEEASE do this for me, pleeeeeeeeease! :'(

I can see the difference.  Much lower noise and better detail.

Lisandra,
No guarantees in the near future but it's added to the "list" of shots to do...

I think it's from an HX1.  One is "native" and the other is twilight.

This is very interesting, but let's get back to the A55 and A33 discussion.

A burst of shots are taken, and then the camera's firmware process the burst images to create a single image with reduced noise and blur and shake.....(designed for shooting low light scenes without a tripod)

Hmmmm....
Going with that line of thought (and not arguing against you) I'd debate that any shot produced with any type of in camera editing is not a normal photograph ....(to include things like in camera sharpening settings)

In-camera sharpening is still a photograph in my point of view, as is in-camera NR, in-camera brightness/contrast, in-camera gamma. In-camera HDR, in-camera "twilight" are not, as they are produced from more than one exposure and can not be compared to pictures, taken with a single exposure on another camera. If I take four ISO3200 photos in a burst on my e-p1 and unite them later in software, should I call that "ISO 12800"?

From what I understand, the ISO is the same but the variable is in white balance and exposure compensation
