Samsung NX100 Image And Specs!
« on: September 06, 2010, 12:55:13 PM »
Serious competition for the PEN? I think not.

-The camera has no built-in flash
-The display is a 921K AMOLED
-The new lenses will be the 20-50mm and the 20mm pancake
-The 20-50mm f/3.5-5.6 ED has no OIS system
-Both lenses do have a new button, iFn button, it is an extension of Fn button on the camera and you can control the features through the focus ring on the lens.
-The EVF is optional and just 201K (300×224) with 0.83X magnification
-The new external flash is the GN15
-The other device on the National Geographic picture is a GPS receiver and works with google maps
-The camera has 2 select dials, one on top and other around 4 way button
-The camera has a lot of direct access and controls.
-Th the DOF button is on the left side of the body
-This are the dimensions 120.5 × 71 × 34.5 mm
-282gr
-HD 720p with mono audio
-The Auto mode ISO is selectable: 1 step (200, 400, 800, 1600) and 1/3 step (125, 160, 200, etc… until 1600)
-Manual ISO selectable from 100 to 6400

It's a glorified point and shoot camera.

I've seen uglier P&S (and owned one or two) but that is ugly enough to be turned down by the ugly sisters from hell.

I don't like it, but why do you say that?

i dont hate it........... yet ............i think its a step in the right direction

missed oppotournity : internal evf with good res ..... when will one of these makers wake up?also a 20 -50 zoom whats that a 30--80 equiv.... crap speed too lots of room for a bigger front element with the ability to gather another stop of light !!

where is the 2..8 to 4 zoom that will earn them some brownie points with their base of shooters, do they not realize how much influence we have with  the photo curious >:(

ive sold at least 10 people on the pen panny micro 4 \3 paradigm in the last year
and i get nothing in return , not even a decent stable of lenses
 :( :( :( :( :( :(

Not only that, but no OIS on a 30--80 equiv. f/3.5-5.6 means it will be totally useless indoors.

The curves and the design, they just scream cheap plastic piece of crap. Sorry, but they do.

They could have spared the curves. It would have got a slightly retro look if they did.

This looks good, and has a hot-shoe. What’s the multiplication factor? 1.5x, same as the NX10? Presumably it’ll also take the NX10’s pancake 30mm. I wonder how pancakey the 20mm is — hopefully almost invisible. That’d make a superb pocket camera with the interchangeable lens possibility for those other moments where you need a bit of a zoom. If it’s 1.5x and same mount as the NX10, it should take the enormous zooms from that, too, I suppose.

I suspect that this is up against the Panasonic LX5, and will probably win, if it can perform as expected, because it will in all probability be cheaper, judging by how the NX10 was sold in ever recedingly priced bundles.

The good looks are a subjective matter. A 40-year old Smena-6 looks better to me (see my forum avatar).
Success will indeed depend on target audience and pricing. But dropping generic features out does not speak well for the vendor's plans. It will surely not be able to compete with basic dSLR offerings, nor with m4/3. Current NEX kits offer more too, except the very basic NEX+16mm pancake. So it will have to be priced lower than everithing EVIL, lower even than some P&S models, in order to attract buyers.

can someone explain to me why the nx cameras , lacking a mirrorbox assembly,
like the pens\pannys m4\3 and the sony nex`es, can`t be fitted with a m mount lens assuming someone made an "adapter'[ even me :) ]

?????????

Sounds like the Flange-Back distance is not appropriate. The m4/3 has a 20mm of Flange-Back distance, while NEX has 25. M-mount has 27.8 mm, and the difference of 2.8mm might be insufficient for an adapter to be machined.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, please.

NEX has a Flange-Back distance of only 18mm.
