Homemade/modified 38mm f/2.8 for the E-P1
« on: November 01, 2009, 05:03:18 AM »
Hi everybody!

I just wanted to share some modification I did a while ago. Hope you find it interesting :)
This is what I did:

I had an Olympus 35ED camera, disfunctional - which I bought on a market for about 10$. The camera has a built-in 38mm f/2.8 lens, non-changable. So I tore the camera apart, and ended up with the lens attached to a heavy metal plate. I used a dremel to get away the screws I could not remove in other ways. So sorry for my bad english..

Then I used the body cap that was included in the E-P1 kit as an adapter for the lens.
I experimented to get right focus and ended up gluing the lens to the body cap with the gluegun, and when it was warm I pressed it down to get right focus. I missed. So its a soft infinityfocus. Damn. Better luck to you guys. But it works to portraits and stuff. The modified lens on the E-P1.

What I have not done yet is to fill the backside of the body cap entirely with the gluegun, and then make a little hole so it stays attached like a lens, not like a body cap. If I focus too much now I end up take off the lens.

Here are some pictures straight from the camera.

And a sharper one:

Thank you!! Makes me happy :) Just order a 3$ body cap and I bet you'll do great if you find an disfunctional ED! :)

It looks good, but I forgot to mention that there is no way to adjust the aperture :) So there is f/2.8 wide open all the time :)
