Voigtlander Nokton 50mm f/1.1 Lens Samples *****
« on: January 14, 2010, 12:41:14 PM »
Well, inspite of its size, I really like this Nokton, best Voigtlander I've used so far, IMHO.

Hail to the King of Voigtlander 50mms
Accurate colors ... really sharp at f/5.6 in good light and this one is at ISO 400 only, 1/60

And in really low light, a stellar performance, even at f/1.1
This scene was in a truly dark area, ISO 400, f/1.1, 1/15.  It was dark, but the EVF made it brighter, and this is how it is seen from the EVF
Fortune Teller

Will check out bokeh later, but here is another f/1.1 image, through a glass window

Impressive that one can use ISO 400 in the shots.
Great fast lens.

This is big for a 50mm, like a Leitz Noctilux.  This size should be for 80mm upwards, it actually almost looks like my Zeiss 85mm.

It is even big on my old RF, imagine what it would look like on the smaller M4/3.

nice shots.  sorry for the newb q, but is there that 2x magnification factor when you slap these lenses onto the micro 4/3 cam?

tnx.

There is. You will see half the view angle that a 35mm camera will see, or the equivalent angle of view of double the focal length. Thus a 50mm on m4/3 will see approximately the same image like 100mm on a 35mm camera.

I've been trying my 'portrait hand' once again.  Not having a pro model around, my wife Path is moreorless (sometimes less) a willing/unwilling subject (or is it 'object'? ;)) for my 'portrait training sessions  :)

This one from a couple of days ago, - late afternoon, outside, all natural light, - with the Oly E-P1 & my brand new Voigtländer Nokton 50mm/f1.1.  Used the in-camera's 'e-Portrait' [SCN](soft focus) program. Handheld. Lens all manual, of course.
Adapter used: Voigtländer VM (→ μFT). Shot in RAW, - very little PP.  Lens is very sharp, - I might just be a tad off on the focus department on this one, - the strength of this hunk of glass is undoubtedly it's light assembling properties and it's ability to isolate the object at hand.  Look forward to many more sessions with the Nokton mounted on a μFT house.  Btw, - had a tug o' war with myself, choosing between the 25mm Nokton and this one.  Ended up with the 50mm.

Oly E-P1 & Voigtländer Nokton 50mm/f1.1@ 1/320 - f1.4 - [SCN] e-Portait - ISO200 - Handheld

Thanks for viewing.

I had one for a short time with my Leica M5.... A stellar lens indeed.
For Close portraits, f/1.1 is too wide to keep the eyes in the DOF area... But, it is better to move back to a 1/2 Portrait shot at f/1.1, focus on the closest eye, and crop later.

The Bokeh is very close to the Leitz Noctilux f/1 The Leitz has tad better feathering, but you have really look to see it, and at 1/10 the price of the Leitz..

Very nice samples....

"Did you do something to the top of your E-P2"?

I'm afraid I'm not getting what you are pointing at here, voyager? Explain, - and I'll try my best, :)

I bought my E-P2 from B&H, N.Y., by mail order.  Originally I wanted the 'Limited (or Special?) Edition', but the said store was 'sold out' on that item (the kit incl. a black edition of the 17/f2.8 pancake lens & the FL-14 flash), so, instead, I changed my order into the ordinary, black version. (It came with the 'silver' (grey) version of the 17/2.8, which I still own, and never used).  The E-P2 I own has a metal skinned housing, similarly processed as the 'silver' E-P1 i own, except that the metal 'skin' of the housing now has had a machined, somewhat semi-transparent 'blackish varnish' (or 'lacquer') painted to it. Top & bottom plates are some sort of black 'metal-look-alke' plastic (I believe), similar to the silver/grey-ish on the E-P1.

I haven't yet had 'a close look-up' of the E-P3, - but I believe that the black color of the housing on that one to be of a different kind? (Above to the best of my knowledge).

Here's a photo, - from DP-review of the E-P2 (BK version kit II, - the one branded 'Special Edition'):  http://a.img-dpreview.com/news/1008/olympus/E-P2_front_black_closed_kit_XL.jpg

Very sexy lens.

I'm beginning to think I would like try a few of these M mount Voigts on the GH2.

This one was done this late-late afternoon to-day, in our garden.  The lens has a 1m focus limitation, thus cropped quite much (distance to focused object not much more than 1m).
