A "walk-around" travel lens for m4/3 cameras. Fellow users in the board should have posted some samples. As there is no dedicated thread in this lens sample section, I started one here.

Mounted on E-P2

Barrel extended to 150mm

Closer look of the lens on E-P2

@14mm - f/5.0 - 1/200 sec - ISO 200 (-0.3EV)

@42mm - f/5.4 - 1/50 sec - ISO 1000

@100mm - f/5.6 - 1/200 sec - ISO 200 (-0.3EV)

@135mm - f/6.3 - 1/80 sec - ISO 320

@150mm - f/5.6 - 1/60 - ISO 1000 (-0.3EV)

Very good lens. Slightly long at the telephoto end however. Good pictures!

Quality looks pretty good. I'm assuming it's worst wide open at both extremes? I suppose we still can't have our cake and eat it too.

Thanks for the samples. I was also considering this lens. Have you shot much video with this lens? I understand that it has quick and quiet autofocus suitable for video. But some reviews have mentioned that the aperture blades make a lot of noise during operation--have you experienced this?

@Centauri27
Unlike other m4/3 lenses I have, I do not find annoying clicking sounds when I use 14-150 for video.
The C-AF or C-AF with tracking are not as fast as a dedicated AVCHD camcorder (like Canon HF100 I have)
I am not good at video (and photography) at all.
I will try to post some clips in future if I feel that they are not too lousy. :)

@cosinaphile
~USD667. Hmm ...
I agree it's a bit expensive considering travel zoom lens with comparable focal range from Tamron and Sigma.

Thanks for the info, gareth. I wouldn't expect the E-P1 to be as quick as a dedicated camcorder, but that lens is no doubt a huge improvement over the kit zoom, right?

I agree it's a little expensive (like all m/43 lenses): it's $650 in Canada, before taxes. Micro Four Thirds has delivered on the promise of smaller, lighter, but (unfortunately) not cheaper. It also annoys me that the first part of the zoom is already covered by the kit zoom, so you're only really getting 43-150mm. But that's the nature of superzooms I guess.

I brought with me MZD 9-18, Lumix 20/1.7 & MZD 14-150 in my last vacation trip to Malaysia (Johor + Melaka).
I am convinced it is a capable travel lens.
Several photos from MZD 14-150 to share.

f/11 - 1/500 sec - ISO 200 @ 14mm

f/6.3 - 1/100 sec - ISO 200 @90mm

f/8 - 1/160 sec - ISO 200 @100mm

f/5.6 - 1/60 sec - ISO 320 (-0.3EV) @ 150mm (handheld)

Very nice shot of the boy, Gareth.  I'd love to have the 14-150mm but right now the ol' budget doesn't stretch that far.  Before 2011 is over though!

I appreciate all your samples, gareth. Your photos played a role in my decision to get the 14-150 (that plus the $200 discount when it went on sale ;-)). I just received the lens and haven't really used it yet, but I can already see the focusing is a dream! (Though you can still hear it in quiet videos).

You're welcome, Centauri27. Hope you'll enjoy using it. You got a good bargain with the amount of discount. :)
