Thanks! I burned out of mainstream high-end audio 20 years ago. Nowadays I consider myself more of a DIY audio hobbyist. I built those amps for a friend.

Actually the lens belongs to another DIY audio buddy who also shoots with an M6. At the time I took the picture he was trying my 60s rigid Summicron 50/2 for a different "flavor" and I was taking care of his late 90s version, black with built-in retractable hood. I've already returned the lens got my older 50/2 'cron back.

Just for kicks I mounted his lens on the E-P1 in lieu of the kit 14-42 lens and liked the rendition so much better.

I don't know if this is the "Pre-ASPH" version, But, the "Pre-ASPH" is a little cheaper, and more common the "ASPH" versions.

I've been busy and just checked in....if you look at my previous reply, I took this picture while I was in possession of a friend's ca. '96 50mm Summicron , it looks like this, while he had my early 60s "Rigid" 50mm Summicron. I don't have access to the said lens at the moment and can't provide a picture. But I believe the lens formula is the same as the current version with built in telescoping hood.

I was under the impression that there is a newer ASPH 50mm Summicron but I was wrong. I've revised the title in this post and hope it will appear in the main title. If not, Mods please feel free to revise it, thanks!

This is an important part distinguishing Leica Lenses from one another.
Many want to know what Version it is also...

Example... 35mm f/2 Summicron in the "M" mount had 4 versions I believe.. the first 2 where from Watzlar, 3rd was from Canada, 4th was from Germany and ASPH., and there was a change in the # elements somewhere along the line also. Which effects the Bokeh.

So, that's way I ask for more info on Leica Lenses.... and I reflect this in the Title and Index by separating the slight differences, and anyone that has a few samples of the same FL and f/stop, but are different versions, to start separate threads for each variation.
