Canon TV Zoom Lens 16-100mm f/1.9 Lens Samples *****
« on: March 05, 2010, 02:56:23 PM »
This Lens I picked up for £10 from a local second hand camera shop, It was £10 because the manual aperture dail is broken, and the front element had a couple of chips in it.
It looks like the lens was designed to specifically fit a certain 16mm camera with auto aperture control, but I have limited knowledge of cine equipment so I can't be sure.

Example of it at 16mm and f/1.9:

The vignette is most severe at 30mm, and is about the same at the extreems, 16mm and 100mm

Awesome shot. In this use, I think it works beautifully.

I love seeing what strange things happen when lens are used in ways they weren't designed.

I wish you many happy accidents!

A lot of vignetting and not much in focus. Though for £10 you get a lot of fun for the money which is the most important.
Be nice to each other, life is too short for anything else.

it is a quirky, but wonderful shot , parrots have a lot of  intelligence and personality
and this comes thru beautifully in a humorous and pictorially solid way,

and  this in spite of the the iq and vignetting , which frankly  are , you know :)

happy accidents indeed , but we need the wisdom to recognize them as they occur

cheers

Thanks for all the kind words,

In hindsight it probably wasn't the best picture to show the image quality of the lens, but its certanly my favorite shot taken with it so far, it was taken at iso1600 at 1/15th sec, so I was pretty lucky he stayed still long enough.

I've had a look inside and I'm pretty sure I can get the aperture to work in a round-about way, thus extending the depth of feild a bit, its stuck at f/1.9 because a mechanical link has worn down.

@voyager, vignettes are independant of focal length, and depend on the lens design. I imagine theres a lot of comprimise to be made when designing a zoom with such a wide focal range and constant fast aperture.
