How skilled have you become with video?
« on: August 26, 2010, 11:56:31 PM »
Since cameras make it so much easier to get more professional looking video, how much has your video improved from the jolting unsteady and not properly lit videos of those point and shooters?

I have to admit, I haven't been all that happy with my E-P1 videos so far. It's very different from shooting with a camcorder and is also different from shooting P&S videos. I believe the manufacturers are doing a great disservice by trumpeting "crystal clear professional HD videos" in their ads. Shooting video on interchangeable lens cameras require a different technique, one that I'm still trying to learn.

I took about 15 seconds of video with my E-P1 by mistake. It wasn't very good.  :(

i used it to take a test shoot for a music video...
but...i hadn't got used to the focusing..so....it's off at times....
a little bit tricky, but the shallow depth of field is way nice compared to the sanyo xacti i had before!  i really wanna do more!

Very nice for a first attempt! Yes, the shallow depth of field is both a blessing and a curse. The focus "bobbing" is even worse when you're shooting indoors. Quite different from using a camcorder, where autofocus is so quick and silent that it's not noticeable.

I tried the video on my EP1 when I first got it.

It's rubbish.
